Insights Into Pathogen Diversity and Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles in the Intensive Care Units of a Regional Hospital in Oman
A retrospective study found that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in ICUs is a significant challenge, with a majority of pathogens being Gram-negative and Klebsiella. Acinetobacter and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae were the most common MDROs. Acinetobacter was sensitive to aminoglycosides, while carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae were difficult to treat. The study suggests that developing an antibiogram for each health institute can help manage and treat nosocomial infections, reduce AMR risk, and prevent antibiotic misuse.
